BonpuDiary : Steam sale and the Bonpu Within — The Buddha’s Way of Not Buying?

The Steam Autumn Sale has begun. A whisper: “It’s cheap — now’s your chance…” And then my eye catches something not even on sale but released at the same time — the remastered Final Fantasy Tactics (FFT). Ah, what a hell of temptation.

But when I actually click through to the store page thinking “maybe I should buy it…”, in the end I find myself saying, “Nah — what a hassle.” “Why pay money to add more bothers to my life…?” What I really want are the BGM and the story.

In that case, it’s faster to just listen on YouTube or watch someone else play.

I already have three daily duties piled on in another Square Enix online game: the push for rank during the PvP season, weapon-crafting content, and the dungeon run level-grind that comes with it.

…so if I add FFT to that, it’s guaranteed to become the “let’s pray for my stacked backlog” course. Namu.

Still, what draws me in are the BGM and those cool snatches of dialogue.

“We, the sinful children of Ivalice…”
“ I will not let you love them any longer! I am here for that!”
“Ideals alone change nothing.”
“No — not yet! I will not give up yet!”

—Doesn’t that send a shiver down your spine? But to be honest, I don’t fully understand the whole story.

This is the same pattern as Edo-period commoners cheering for kabuki without knowing the plot — praising the actors’ poses and flashy costumes. I am precisely a modern-day kabuki plebeian.

You don’t need to experience the whole game to enjoy it in fragments. No need to buy on Steam — YouTube will do. And today again I nibble on BGM and cool lines and shout “Bravo!” in a delightfully plebeian way. (My wallet is spared, and could this be… the salvation of Amida-sama?) In truth, I’m just lazy and unwilling to deal with hassle ┐(´д`)┌
