"All miscellaneous practices and self-reliant efforts, throw them away..."
This phrase comes from the Ryogemon of Jodo Shinshu.
...But for me, it also works as a mindset when I grab the toilet brush.
The Moment of the Secret Technique
When you wake up in the morning, you always find excuses:
"I'm sleepy, I'll do it later."
"No one's coming today, so it's fine."
"I cleaned the sink last night... I think."
At that very moment, I unleash the secret technique:
"Throw everything away, and just do it!"
I wipe the washbasin, give the toilet a quick scrub, and polish the sink until it shines.
Suddenly, my eyes open wide. This is no longer just cleaning.
It's practically a finishing move.
Side Effect: A Clear Mind
Once the water areas sparkle, strangely enough, my mood clears up too.
"I did it!"—a sense of accomplishment.
"I cleaned, so even if I'm lazy later, it's forgiven."—a small indulgence.
This, I call the side effect of the secret technique.
It's not ascetic practice, nor enlightenment.
It's simply a daily habit.
But do it every morning, and it starts to sound like a true secret art.
Conclusion
The trick to habit-building is to give it a cool name.
For me, "Morning Water-Area Cleaning" is my Secret Technique: The Art of Throwing Everything Away.
Before you start overthinking—
Grab the sponge!
That alone can change the flow of your entire day.
