Temples, Rakugo, and Shōwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjū

The roots of rakugo lie in temples. Sermons were the ancestors of rakugo. Recently, many temples hold rakugo events. Both storytellers and monks can "save people with words," making them a perfect match.

I once got completely hooked on "Shōwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjū." Set in the world of rakugo, it is a deeply dramatic human story—messy, emotional, yet ultimately rewarding. I finished all volumes on Kindle and watched the anime entirely.

The voice cast, including Akira Ishida, Tomokazu Seki, Megumi Hayasibara, and Koichi Yamadera, was amazing. Their voices still linger in my mind.

The official site says, "Ephemeral yet beloved. That is rakugo (life)." Truly, people live with regrets, yet they continue on.
